Was just in Switzerland last month and went to a few Swiss restaurants!! Loved the cheese fondue! Does anyone know any restaurants in Ireland that do cheese fondue???? Much appreciated
Hey Sultana- good question. I don't think I've ever come across one. I'm pretty sure there isn't one in Cork or Dublin city centre or Galway or Limerick or Waterford. Interesting....
I've never seen any either - mores the pity, I love fondue! ... I made it at a new years party there a few years ago and it went down a trest (despite looking like it had split!)
I don't remember the name but there's an Italian restaurant in Cork that my friend told me about, she said she got really good fondue there as a starter. I'll ask her the name of it and post it here!
She said it's called Casanovas, but isn't sure if they do that starter anymore. I'm after doing a bit of investigation and found it, the starter is a cheese and truffle fondue...
Nautalis in Ballycotton does an amazing fondue. Check when booking if it is on for that night and if you give Leo the chef enough notice I am sure he would make it for you. Ballymaloe House also does a really lovely fondue and once again if you ask for it in advance then I am sure you would be accommodated.
i went to casanovas restaurant in cork but unfortanately they didnt have the fondu when i went!
i will defo try nautalis in ballycotton!thx for the suggestion
lord sugar's search for his next cheese fondue continues....
Nautilus in Ballycotton has changed hands- Lionel is no longer cooking there. However there are new owners (Colm Falvey who ran the Cross of Cloyne, Wisteria and a number of other restaurants in East Cork) and while they are doing amazing food I'm not sure they are doing fondu's- but they may be. I haven't had a chance to eat there yet, but I'm looking forward to checking it out as I've heard amazing reviews. Happy fonduuuuuuing. Sully
There is an amazing French restaurant in naas and I remember I got a fondue and veg platter.. It was spectacular but they do change their menu seasonally so I'm not sure if it's still on the menu currently.
The restaurant is called vie de chateaux.. really worth going for a meal even if they don't have the fondue now
Yummmmyyyyy- I think that would work- we were at a pop up restaurant in a glasshouse a few weeks ago and it was incredible- 100 people eating under lots of onions drying and ripening tomatoes. It was the first 'pop up' thing I've been at. Lovin' it
One of the most delicious recipes I know for cheese fondue is done by melting 2 cups of grated cheddar cheese over a low heat slowly... Don't stir or it will split. Add in a tablespoon of Ballymaloe Country relish, A crushed Clove of garlic and a tiny splash of wine if you like. Just as the last bit of cheese melts give it a very gentle stir to bring it together. Serve with Chunky squares of toast.
If you mix a little emmental or good melting cheese through the cheddar it will help to stop it splitting.

Where in Naas is it? That's a handy one as we're up and down the Dublin road like bileos so it woud be good to know. Thanks a mill. Sully

It's near the harbour and the courthouse!
Let me know if you go there, what you think. I used to love going there, actually lived in the apartments opposite the restaurant
Fantastic - thanks a mill. We're up an the Ploughing this week so we might even make it then. Thanks a mill. Sully
Did you try out the french place while you were in Kildare? Saw you on the news at the ploughing
way to go!
Since pop-up stores and restaurants seem to be all the rage around the country, a pop up Fondue café, both chocolate and cheese!, would be so so good!
